Divide never worried me

Coddled in a box with room to breathe.

But then you decided best to cut me free

And you’ve gone where I can’t go.

Open days to move and search.

All night to analyze my path and work.

But it’s hard when I want you at every turn

And now you have gone where I can’t ever go.

Was it not enough to feel the flame?

What was mine was yours, was ours to take.

Thought we had what we dreamt of someday.

Thought you’d never leave when I was wide awake.

Already absent, just to clarify

You tore out any lines that kept us tied.

It is hard to be so close but never right,

To battle an island just to see it rise.

But now you have gone where I can’t ever go.

In your panic you’ve made me the prey.

I’m counting the sand until the water drains.
