We mixed all the mortar

Built the scaffolds and stacked the brick

Straw hats gave us shade

While we worked in the oven

That southern sun unforgiving

I wouldn’t trade it for nothing

A lifetime passed in what seems like a blink

If I’d known I was living that fast

I would’ve stopped to think

How good the water feels

Bare foot in the creek

Or the mud between ya toes
