When all my actions seem to leave no trace

All words, muted, they appear out of place

When all my deeds fall short of the mark

My vision of the future is so stark…

Once heir to the world

The winds have changed

Former glories mock me, or so it seems

The order of things has been rearranged

The gods plough salt into the fields of my dreams

Echoes in the abyss answer my screams

They make not a wave in the world outside

Bereft of spirit, soulless I feel

A suppliant, chained

Before you I kneel…

Unable longer to fight against this

I can just wait and sit it out

Hide away, sink within myself

And wait for fate to take its course…

Dead to the world, dead to myself

Nothing can change without force of will

Mine this world has all but killed

A knife in the back

Done in stealth
