Below the thunders of the deep

Far beneath in the abysmal sea

His ancient, dreamless sleep

And the faintest sunlight flee

There hath he lain for ages

And will lie

Until the latter fire shall heat the deep

On his shadowy sides above him swell

Millenial growth and height

Sponges huge and far away into the light

From many wondrous cells

Battening upon sea-worms in his sleep

Riding on waves up high

Once by man and angels to be seen

In roaring thunder he shall rise

And on the surface die
