Ever upwards I gaze

To the stars above

The only comfort I find

Filth in which I am trapped

I feel myself sinking deeper

Flesh falls from my bones

But I gaze ever upwards

At those shimmering lights

The stars are fading

Flickering blood red

As though bidding farewell

I rot into the earth

Suddenly I find I am mistaken

Death shall not end my suffering

Trapped between life and death

Draped eternally in decay

The stars I gazed upon were lies

Not celestial bodies at all

But the distant fires of hell

Shining weakly for the truly damned
