It was not my choice for us to bond

We’re not lovers after all

And though I persist in hanging on

I’ll understand if you should fall

We can stay till we’ve rotted

They made a monster out of me…

They strung me up by my ears from a tree to scare away the creeps and thieves

Of the tree, view obstructed now by me

One good eye left now half of the earth is all he sees

(Should summer bring a storm that rips your limbs and branches off and sets me

free with mine still on, I’ll know it was my fault.)

I, responsible for your suffering;

though you’d done no wrong

Your severed arms hang from my cartilage because I can’t let you go

You’re swinging from my ears, and now I’m the hanging tree

I’ll let you hang there through the years, until the guilt one day leaves me

Can you see much clearer without me?

Is the sun setting twice as bright?

Does the air taste twice as sweet?

Can you see in the distance, six limbed me?

Does the sight make you sick or do you relish in it?

Do you ever miss me?

Head low, eyes slow

Move, don’t look up

From town to town finding none like I amongst humanity

The shape I’m in, no one would have me

Not that anyone should…

(Would you believe I made a forest out of me’s? I used the last of my will to

drag this body out to the desert to plant these feet.)
