Evidence Locker - Single Mothers

I left everybody and went home to rest

There was a silence to the departure

It wasn’t quite silent, but there was silence to it

The way when it’s been raining for a long time

The noise of it all just bends and sits in whatever you’re doing

And then you only really notice when you get up and it’s gone

Well, it was one of those, I guess

And I got up, a spattering of life, of living

Of evidence that we existed that was littered everywhere

And that’s what it felt like: litter

Is this what a soul feels like, something thrown out a car window?

Is that what a soul feels like, just evidence in a locker?

There were a lot of long funny days wrapping up in this

It was a timeframe of an explosion

And we were about to break that weak façade

We had a cool, cynical approach to technology

You couldn’t get a hold of us if you tried and

Nobody was trying to get a hold of us

At least much back then

We were a lonely gang, we were a desperate clique

We wanted you to want to be you and me, we didn’t trust anything

And that’s what this whole thing stems from: trust

I didn’t think of God back then as anything other than a word

But now as we’re packing up and spinning our loose ends together

I know so many words that have lost or gained meaning

I say sorry a whole lot, but the right people never hear me

You’re a stowaway

You’re a hollow thought

A faith that comes and goes

As awkwardly as you want

There was gasoline on my hands

Mixing with a bit of glass from the window

There was a little rainbow in my blood

It stirred in me quiet and lyrical

So I left and went home to rest

I managed to get myself to bed

But there wasn’t really much of me left

I wanted you to want to be you and me

I would have done anything and you took my trust

But I guess what this whole thing stems from is lust
