I caught you dancing like a businessman

Or someone else’s parents

Letting your hair down

Unbuttoning your shirt

You were surprised and embarrassed

To see me come into the room

To fetch a drink of water

Because I couldn’t get to sleep

The weather’s cleared

But my own rain’s just started

A life of inbetween bits

A life spent putting flowers on a grave

A nation of leaves

Dead brown leaves, constant drizzle

Always sitting on my hands

At the foot of your religion

The scent of flowers was stronger

Now they’re all covered in leaves
