This must be the feeling my father

felt the first time when he saw my mother.

The ocean as music, the sand as their floor,

She could’ve walked off but she laughed and she smiled.

I know what he taught was enough.

Is this the way that my father kissed her?

The sky burning out sunk in sheets together.

His lips nervously trembling towards her cheek,

her eyelids half closed, her nerves begging for peace.

I want to feel the rush he felt when he was on

his knee, ring in sight, the rough stillness of time.

Her breath desynchronized as she waters her eyes,

how did he know she’d look beautiful in white?
