For a second I didn’t recognize

The face that grew from boy to man before my eyes

The lines are hard, the beard is thick, and the scars might play a trick

But the savage jaw clenched, baby chin, and flood of memories rushes in

At the time our lives seemed like a daily rerun state

Like nothing that we did could bring us to a better place

We punched the clock, worked all day, and made jokes about low pay

And watched some screens, and drank some drinks

And set alarms and got some winks then …

I think back and second guess the choices I have made

I wonder how I could’ve won the games we plated

Had less guitars, a smaller place and a job with slower pace

And home each weekend, playing catch and walking dogs a better dad

Now I bet you’re facing crises like the ones I had
